We are happy to announce The Thomistic Institute at Texas State has taken form here on campus. The Thomistic Institute uses the thought of our Universal Doctor of the Church, St. Thomas Aquinas, as our touchstone to promote Catholic truth in our contemporary world. TI serves to strengthen intellectual formation not just to students alone, but to other people in the Church and people in the wider public square. TI is an organization created by the Dominican Order and is an academic institute of the Pontifical Faculty of the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, D.C. In 2015 campus chapter programs began and have now spread to over 50 campuses around the world. Each chapter is run by students who work directly with The Thomistic Institute at The Dominican House of Studies to organize events on their campuses.
This fall semester, TI at Texas state plans to host monthly lectures by top-notch scholars from around the United states who will give talks built upon the Catholic intellectual tradition, as well as weekly book studies hosted by Dr. Varacalli on Kreeft’s Summa of the Summa. All events are free and open to the public. TI is excited to set out burning lamps of faith and reason in some of the spiritually darkest territories of our civilization – American universities. If you are interested in joining the TI mail list to stay updated on events, conferences and more, email TI chapter president Hailey Hughes (h_h146@txstate.edu).
