Our Campaign was launched in Nov. 2023 at Dining in the Vines, and incorporates Father Jared's vision for the next couple of years: highlighting the Transcendentals that enables an encounter with Christ, and brings us closer to Him.
In 1905, Pope Pius X wrote the encyclical, Acerbo Nimis. His decree in this encyclical was for all dioceses throughout the world where there are public universities, to establish ways to teach the truths of the faith and precepts of Christian morality. Most of the new clubs and chapels that formed were named after Cardinal John Newman, whose dedication to the teaching of the faith especially at the college level was admirable.
5 years after Acerbo Nimis was published, 17 Dioceses in the US had full-time chaplaincies. In 1914, when the Newman Club started in San Marcos, the number had climbed to 50! Fast forward to 1993, when H.L. “Bud” Grant met with Bishop McCarthy and gifted the money to build a new student center to expand the Catholic Campus Ministry at Texas State University.
