Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word.
Catechism of the Catholic Church 1213
Parents who are seeking Baptism for their children are asking that their child is initiated into the Catholic Community and the local Church Community of Our Lady of Wisdom. The Church baptizes infants/children on the faith of the parents. The ideal is that parents have a deep faith, which they actively live out in the experience of the Catholic Church Community. We consider children from birth through the age of six to be infants. Children 7 and older who need to be baptized must attend religious education classes at St. John the Evangelist in San Marcos.
Please call the church office before proceeding with the paperwork to ensure that Our Lady of Wisdom is the appropriate parish for the Sacrament. Determination of the parish connection is important because all future Sacraments of the baptized individual become permanent at the "Church of Baptism."
