A. The Parish Council will establish Commissions as detailed below, and as required, to execute programs that support the Parish Strategic Plan. These Commissions are the task groupings of the Pastoral Council. Each Commission will be headed by a Parish Council member and will meet as required, but at least once a semester. Minutes will be kept and submitted to the Pastoral Council. After action reports will be generated for all major activities.
B. The basic functions of each Commission are to promote the activities and programs of the Commission and communicate with the parish leadership and parishioners. This includes recruiting membership, formulating goals, objectives, timelines and determining resources needed and responsibility for implementation.
C. The Liturgy Commission collaborates with the Pastor and deacon in the areas of liturgy preparation, including the training, formation, and utilization of liturgical ministers such as sacristans, lectors, ushers, and extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist. Ministry experience would support leading this Commission.
D. The Faith Formation Commission collaborates with the Pastor, Deacon, and the campus minister in programs of evangelization, including educational programs, RCIA, marriage preparation, and Texas State ministry. Experience as a Catholic educator would support leading this Commission.
E. The Service and Evangelization Commission discerns and responds to the needs of Texas State faculty, staff and students, parishioners and the wider communities of San Marcos, Texas, identifying resources to meet needs and enlisting the active cooperation of parishioners. This includes pro-life activities, support for the St. Vincent de Paul Society, advocacy for social programs, and participation in corporal works for mercy for both parishioners in need and the wider community. It includes working with other parish organizations such as Women of Wisdom, the Catholic sorority (Mu Epsilon Theta) and fraternity (Lambda Omega Alpha) to meet common goals. It works with the Campus Minister and Evangelization Coordinator. Experience leading and working within Catholic social programs would support leading this Commission.
F. The Stewardship Commission aids the Pastor, the Business Administrator and the Development Director in the operation and maintenance of parish infrastructure. This includes grounds care through the YODAS program. The leader of this Commission will consecutively serve on the Parish Finance Council. A special responsibility of this Commission is to help develop a plan to expand the parish infrastructure to serve the needs of the of the 11,000 Texas State students and 2,000 faculty and staff registered as Catholics. Infrastructure management and development experience would support leading this committee.
G. The Council may establish ad hoc committees as needed with an established timeline for completion of the mission.
