Fr. Jonathan starts chemo!
"Today, Fr. Jonathan finally started chemo. He will NOT be having radiation after all. Thanks for your continued prayers.
Fr. Mark and my mom arrive back Wednesday evening."

Please pray for continued pain management for Fr. Jonathan. He is at a hospital about 20 min. from his house. It's been to difficult for my mom and brother, Fr. Mark to help him control his pain at home. This week they have a number of appointments in anticipation of radiation starting on All Souls Day next week. He will have 10 rounds of radiation over a 2 week span to start out his treatment. My mom said yesterday that he is tired, weak, and has difficulty concentrating on reading or any type of work for long but does get e-mail at the hospital and appreciates all the greetings people have sent.

Greetings from Schoenstatt... hope you had a blessed 18th of October.
Thanks for your continued prayers for Fr. Jonathan and all of us.
Things are starting to move with him... had his first meeting with his
oncologist. Hope to give some firm details on his therapy soon.
Blessings!

Fr. Jonathan is back at home at Berg (Mt.) Sion and is taking e-mail. I talked to mom this morning and she said Fr. Jonathan has a hard time getting comfortable because of his back pain due to the tumors and has no volume in his voice due to the one tumor pinching a nerve that affects the vocal chords so he avoids talking to much. Fr. Mark and I my mom will take Fr. Jonathan to many doctor appointments this week. They said there is no way he could fly home for treatment because it was almost unbearable for him to ride the 2.5 hrs. from the hospital back home.
Please pray for pain management to work (meds etc.) and good medical advice and where to do treatment once that's determined.
They all have a GREAT attitude and taking it all is stride and see God's goodness. This is GRACE from prayer.

Well, Fr. Jonathan's 3 tumors in the lungs are cancerous and the type of chemo will be determined next. The cancer is not in his bones which we are thankful for. It looks like a treatable cancer so more specific treatment details will come next week.
Sept 28, 2011 From Becky, Fr. Jonathan's sister:
I talked to Fr. Jonathan today and he will have the biopsy of the tumors tomorrow. He is hospitalized in Germany. The tumors after nuclear medicine images and cat scans reveal tumors that are VERY suspicious for cancer in the left lung. He may not get his results until next week. He was/is having trouble talking which has been one of his symptoms and back pain. His roommate is a Benedictine Monk which has made it a little more easy. As always, Fr. Jonathan is always optimistic and sees things as God's divine plan.

Fr. Jonathan was in a hospital that specializes in tropical diseases in Germany for awhile with a lung infection. He's been in quite a bit of pain. We just found out today that the doctors had a MRI done and they found 2 tumors on his lungs. The doctors were able to minimize Father Jonathan's pain and he remains in great spirits. His family wanted us to begin praying for him. Please pass this on to anyone that you know would like to know this information and who can pray for him. The family is in good spirits as well. Becky (his sister) said- "It's great to be Catholic and see merit in our pain and offering it to the Lord in a redemptive way."
